QPR – Question, Persuade, Refer

Suicide Prevention “Gatekeeper” Training

SUNDAY, January 26, 3:00-5:00 PM | Cornerstone Commons

Workbooks $5 donation accepted

Registration deadline is January 23

Do you struggle with how to respond to a friend, colleague, or loved one who feels depressed, hopeless or overwhelmed and could be considering suicide?

QPR is an evidence-based program teaching how to recognize and respond to warning signs, clues and communications of suicidal people and how to get help for the person who has suicidal thoughts. It is not a form of counseling, but rather a way to act vigorously to prevent a possible tragedy.

QPR is for adults of all ages, regardless of life stage. Students in grade 9-12 are welcome to attend with an accompanying parent.

Registration deadline extended to January 23. Sign up today!

Workbooks will be provided; donations of $5 are welcomed for the materials but not required.

Those who attend this two-hour session will leave with:

  • Information that is easy to understand and reinforced by a QPR booklet
  • A card complete with warning signs
  • Methods to encourage a person to get help
  • List of resources available in the community

QPR training

QPR – Suicide Prevention Training is recommended for adults of all ages, regardless of your stage in life, and for those in Grades 9-12 with an accompanying parent. It is an evidence-based, SAMHSA-approved training program that teaches participants (“gatekeepers”) to recognize the warning signs, clues and communications of suicidal people, learn what to do if they notice them, and how to get help for the person who has suicidal thoughts. It is not a form of counseling, but rather a way to ACT vigorously to prevent a possible tragedy. Knowing what to do can make a significant difference!

QPR was developed by Paul Quinnett, Ph. D. from Spokane, Washington. The national website for the QPR Institute is: http://www.qprinstitute.com

Your presenter: Carlabeth Mathias, MS, LCSW, LMHC is a certified QPR instructor, who spent more than 30 years as a teacher and school counselor in Indiana schools.
