December Mission Focus – Red Bird Mission

Red Bird Mission, guided by Jesus Christ, empowers individuals and advocates justice by providing spiritual, educational, health, and community outreach ministries in southeastern Kentucky. The need is great in this isolated, rural area where chronic poverty, lack of jobs, poor housing and rugged terrain create obstacles to a fuller life. Red Bird Mission strives to meet the needs of their neighbors through ministry in five areas: Education, Health & Wellness, Community Outreach, Economic Opportunity and Community Housing Improvement.

The students, staff and families of Red Bird Christian School are meeting the challenges presented by the pandemic, laboring through hardships to complete academic requirements. Grants and gifts have been helping provide the technology to deliver online instruction and get equipment and access to each home. Delays in delivery of computer hardware have been a challenge but the students are progressing. They uncover new needs every day and financial support is needed now more than ever.

Who’s ready to get back to a Mission Trip?! St. Mark’s is planning a mission trip to Red Bird Mission Work Camp, in the Appalachian Mountains, October 31-November 5, 2021. Have you been thinking about serving on a mission trip but without leaving the country? Interested in working on a mission project in an atmosphere where participants grow spiritually and gain a personal understanding of mission? Red Bird Mission Work Camp may be just what you’ve been looking for!

There will be a planning meeting, on Sunday, June 6, @ 12:00, in room B/C or via Zoom. Please RSVP if you’ll attend in person as we do have a seating capacity due to Covid protocols. You are invited to attend this meeting and consider joining the next trip or simply share your experience at Red Bird, to encourage others. If you are unable to attend but are considering joining the next trip, please let me know. I look forward to this exciting opportunity to serve with you all!
