Eric DeForest
Director of Music
Eric is originally from Upstate NY where he grew up in the Adirondack Mountains. He studied vocal performance at SUNY Fredonia, West Virginia University and The University of Texas at Austin. He has had the good fortune to have sung in opera and musical theater nationally and internationally. He is currently the Voice Studio Director at Franklin College in Franklin, IN. Eric has served in Music Ministry most of his life as a choral singer. He began his ministry as a choir director in 2011 in Cincinnati, OH. He has been serving as the Music Director at St. Mark’s since July 2016.
Fun Facts: Eric loves all things frog! He is also an avid fan of The Golden Girls!

Why work for St. Mark’s UMC?
St. Mark’s is a wonderful place to work. It has an extremely competent staff and excellent leadership – truly “Aces in their Places!” The whole environment is very welcoming and supportive. I’ve felt at home here since day one!
What is your most memorable moment to-date at St. Mark’s UMC?
My first Easter service at St. Mark’s when the members of the congregation joined the choir for the singing of the Hallelujah Chorus. It was a magical moment for me.

Its growth potential and its willingness to embrace diversity and social justice.
