Scott Melvin

Director of Student Ministries & Worship Leader for The Current

I was born in Thibodaux, Louisiana, but grew up all along the Mississippi and Louisiana Gulf Coast. I graduated from what is now Louisiana Christian University and then attended the George W. Truett Seminary at Baylor University, where I earned my master’s in theological studies. After returning to Louisiana, I pursued and received my MBA from Louisiana State University.

For the past five years, I have worked as a licensed financial advisor and stockbroker at a major brokerage firm. Prio to my financial career, I have served as a youth director in various churches and briefly taught high school religion at a private school.

I am married to Elizabeth Melvin, and we have three children: two girls and a boy.

Fun Facts: I spent a summer hitchhiking in the Western US. I love trying and eating new foods. In high school I was the lead singer in a Christian rock band.

Why work for St. Mark’s UMC? I love this church and staff and felt called to fill a need that was here.  St. Mark’s is a unique place, and to be a part of it is something that I am grateful for.
What is your most memorable moment to-date at St. Mark’s UMC? It’s a tie. Baptizing our youngest daughter here; and my older daughter singing in the Christmas Cantata with the adult choir.
What most excites you about the future of St. Mark’s UMC? St. Mark’s has so many opportunities within our area to reach people and develop a true sense of spiritual community, and we are just beginning to see the rewards of the outreach that we are doing.
