The Mission of St. Mark's United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

St. Mark’s is a community of followers of Jesus Christ that strives to WELCOME all people, GROW in knowledge and grace and SERVE our neighbors, locally and globally.

St. Mark's began in 1979 as a dream and could have gone the way of most dreams -- forgotten if the dream was not shared. But the dream of a new church to serve the growing community of Carmel was shared with a district superintendent, with a sampling of the Carmel community, with leaders of the South Indiana Conference, with a clergy couple still in seminary, and most of all with God who planted the seeds of the dream in the first place. In a span of five years the dream became a reality. With hundreds of meetings, scores of committees, tons of bricks and mortar, and a million sighs and prayers, St. Mark's now stands as a vital ministering body -- a place of support, spiritual growth, and challenge within the church -- and eye for needs and an arm of service outside the church.

The credit is, of course, God's. God wants the unchurch within the faith. God wants the children and young people of Carmel to have a Christian environment where they can celebrate living, struggle with the tensions of growing up, and experience the joy of service in the context of the faith. God wants voices raised in praise and thanksgiving by a worshipping body who gathers to both seek and celebrate what it means to be a Chirstian. God wants Christians to reach out to those cold, hungry, and empty -- bringing God's light and love. St. Mark's holds high the United Methodist emphasis which encourages each person to hammer out his or her own understanding of the faith through Scripture, tradition, experience and reason. These four, with Scripture as primary, allow faithful living to become part of the whole person.
