St. Mark’s Marketing and Communications Coordinator
Part-Time, Salaried, Non-Exempt | Estimated 12-15 Hours per Week

Position Summary
St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Carmel, Indiana, is seeking a creative and organized individual to serve as our Marketing and Communications Coordinator. This person will play a key role in shaping how we communicate within our congregation and to the broader community. The role includes managing digital and print communications, developing a communications strategy, supporting ministry promotion, and enhancing the church’s online and social media presence.
The role also includes developing external communication strategies that help tell the story of St. Mark’s to the wider Carmel community and beyond – sharing who we are, what we offer, and how people can connect with our ministries and mission.
This position may be filled by a part-time employee or a qualified college student serving in a paid internship and may be managed in a hybrid in-office/remote structure. Regular time in-office for collaboration with staff is essential.

Social Media and Digital Engagement
- Create and implement a social media plan that promotes church life, worship, and outreach opportunities.
- Manage the church’s social media presence (e.g., Facebook, Instagram), with content designed to inform, invite, and inspire.
- Design visually engaging posts, videos, and graphics using Canva.
- Monitor social media analytics to understand audience engagement, identify trends, and adjust content strategies to increase visibility and interaction.
Congregational Communication Planning
- Develop and implement a comprehensive congregational communication plan. This plan may include weekly email updates, a monthly newsletter, and/or other creative communication channels (e.g., video messages, text updates, digital storytelling).
- Coordinate with staff and ministry leaders to gather, write, and publish timely and relevant content.
External Communications and Community Outreach
- Develop and implement external communications strategies that promote St. Mark’s to the broader community, including newcomers, neighbors, and community partners.
- Create content that clearly communicates the church’s mission, ministries, worship opportunities, and special events in a welcoming and invitational way.
- Support outreach-focused communication efforts such as community events, seasonal invitations (Holy Week, Christmas, etc.), and ministry highlights that help increase public awareness and engagement.
Internal Communication Support
- Assist with communication needs for worship services and internal events (e.g., announcement slides, bulletin information, internal updates).
- Help ministry teams communicate effectively with their audiences.
Website Strategy and Maintenance
- Collaborate with ministry staff to develop and carry out a plan for maintaining and regularly updating the church website, hosted on the Subsplash platform.
- Ensure website content is current, accessible, welcoming to visitors, and reflective of the church’s mission.
- Use website analytics tools to evaluate user engagement and site traffic, informing updates and improvements that enhance user experience and ministry reach.
- Maintain a consistent and professional visual identity across all communication platforms and materials.
- Design materials such as flyers, announcement slides, and digital graphics that align with church values and events.

Qualifications and Attributes
- Experience or academic background in communications, marketing, design, or a related field
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills
- Familiarity with or willingness to learn Canva and the Subsplash platform
- Experience with social media platforms and analytics
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage deadlines
- A collaborative spirit and openness to feedback and team input
- Respect for the values and mission of the United Methodist Church
Schedule and Hours
- Approximately 12-15 hours per week; flexible scheduling based on availability and church needs.
- Hybrid work schedule available - regular in-person presence essential; remote work is possible.
