Family Promise of Greater Indy
Family Promise is a nonprofit organization, founded in 1994, in response a crisis of family homelessness. While most traditional shelters separate by gender, Family Promise keeps families together, battling homelessness, while they work to get back on their feet. As the gap between housing costs and income continues to widen, more and more families are at risk of homelessness, increasing the likelihood families will separate, children will fall behind in school, and eventually drop out. More than 2.5 million children in America experience homelessness.
Supportive services include the After Care Program and Diversion Program, offering individual skill development & rehabilitation, striving for economic stability for the guests they serve. St. Mark’s has been a long-time partner and supporter of Family Promise, hosting families in our church with the former IHN (Interfaith Hospitality Network) hosting model. The collaboration of various congregations and faith organizations technically still is an interfaith hospitality network, in which hosting is now focused on the Apartment Shelter Program.

How can I help?
Housewares & Restocking Drives
St. Mark’s has a Housewares Drives, collecting donations of kitchen and living items, linens and more, to fully furnish and establish an Apartment Shelter. In an additional Restocking Supply Drive, we collect donations of paper goods and items for frequent replenishing, to support the ongoing apartment needs.
- Housewares Drive: March
- Restocking Drive: September
Apartment Shelter meals
Additional opportunities to help families are with weekly dinner meals. Congregations cook/prepare and deliver a full dinner meal, once a week each month, for families in Apartment Shelters. St. Mark’s will sponsor 2 apartments, thus 2 families. You can sign up to either cook and/or deliver meals to families.
Dinner Meals:
