Family Promise of Greater Indy

Family Promise is a nonprofit organization, founded in 1994, in response a crisis of family homelessness. While most traditional shelters separate by gender, Family Promise keeps families together, battling homelessness, while they work to get back on their feet. As the gap between housing costs and income continues to widen, more and more families are at risk of homelessness, increasing the likelihood families will separate, children will fall behind in school, and eventually drop out.

Family Promise began the Apartment Shelter Program following the challenges and limitations that Covid brought. While the Interfaith Hospitality Network is suspended indefinitely, support for the Apartment Shelter Program has grown wonderfully, allowing Family Promise to still provide emergency food & shelter, and much needed stability.

Additional supportive services include the After Care Program and Diversion Program, offering individual skill development & rehabilitation, striving for economic stability for the guests they serve. St. Mark’s has been a long-time partner and supporter of Family Promise, hosting families in our church with the former IHN (Interfaith Hospitality Network) hosting model. The collaboration of various congregations and faith organizations technically still is an interfaith hospitality network, in which hosting is now focused on the Apartment Shelter Program

How can I help?

July Housewares Drive

During July we are having a Housewares Drives to support the Apartment Shelter Program, with Family Promise of Greater Indy. St. Mark’s is sponsoring an apartment and will collect donations of housewares needed. Thank you for helping families during their challenging transitions!

Apartment Shelter meals

Family Promise is updating the ways in which congregations can continue supporting their programs and increase interactions with the families whom we serve. Congregations are now providing weekly meals to families in Apartment Shelters. During August St. Mark’s will sponsor 2 apartments, thus 2 families. Sign up today to either cook and/or deliver to families.
