Don Broad

Director of Student Ministries

I was born in Ann Arbor, MI but grew up in Carmel and graduated from Carmel High School. I went to Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and then to Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. For 25 years I was a practicing litigation attorney.  During part of that time, I served as a volunteer in Cornerstone Youth Ministry here at St. Mark’s. In 2012, I finally listened to God’s call and began on Staff here in a part-time capacity. I have been the full-time Director of Student Ministry since July of 2017.

Fun Facts: Both my parents attended the University of Michigan, and as a result, I am a HUGE Wolverine fan. I was also a water-ski instructor and camp counselor in North Carolina during my undergraduate summers. I enjoy fishing, card games, and reading.

Favorite Movie: Lord of the Rings (the whole trilogy)
Favorite Book: Chronicles of Narnia (all of them)
Favorite Sports Team: Michigan Wolverines
Favorite Vacation Destination: Elk Rapids, Michigan
Favorite Local Restaurant/coffee shop: Mudbugs

Why work for St. Mark’s UMC?

I love working with teens and young adults and helping them navigate the path of their faith.

What is your most memorable moment to-date at St. Mark’s UMC?

There are so many, but I will never forget my first Fall Retreat in 2004. I had been invited by a student to attend, and it changed the focus of my life.

What most excites you about the future of St. Mark’s UMC?

The rising generation of young people is engaged and committed. The future of The Church, from what I am privileged to witness, is in excellent hands!
