A Message From the Director
As I am sure you well know, not all preschools are the same.  Some incorporate extended days or day care into their programs.  Schools differ in how they structure their classes, the days of the week they meet, the ratio of students to teachers, cost curriculum, number of days they are in session during the year, degreed teachers versus non-degreed teachers, etc.  The list on how schools differ can go on and on.

We believe we have an excellent program with outstanding staff.  We invite you to look over our program and compare it with other programs in the area.  Carmel is blessed with many fine preschools.

As a parent, your job is to find a school that meets both you child's and your needs.  We believe that preschool should be a truly enjoyable experience for both parents and child.

After reading our information, please contact us at (317) 846-8941 or preschool@stmarkscarmel.org with further questions or to arrange a visit.

Preschool and Parents

Allowing your child to attend a preschool program can be one of the best gifts you give your child.  Your child will become more self-reliant and less dependent on you and your presence.

Throughout the school year you will receive a monthly calendar to keep you abreast of daily events in your child's class.  Use this information to prepare your child for each school day and when you pick him/her up to discuss their day.  You will receive newsletters with more detailed information of present and upcoming events at preschool.  Articles on parenting topics are also shared through our monthly newsletter.

Two coffee hours are scheduled during the year. These are an opportunity for parents to meet with our director and other parents and discuss whatever is on their minds.

A Qualified Preschool for Young Children

The purpose of St. Mark's Preschool program is to provide a quality preschool for young children. Our program is a ministry to benefit the child, parent and community.

What is a high-quality early childhood program? A high-quality early childhood program provides a safe and nurturing environment while promoting the physical, social, emotional and intellectual development of young children. In our program you will see:

  • Frequent, positive, warm interactions among children and adults
  • Planned learning activities appropriate to children's age and development
  • Specially-trained teachers
  • Enough adults to respond to individual children
  • Many, varied age-appropriate materials
  • A healthy and safe environment for children
  • Nutritious snacks
  • Regular communication with parents who are welcome visitors at all times
  • Effective administration
  • On-going, systematic evaluation.

Calendar

Parent's night is scheduled in late August. School begins with "Tea Parties"'. Children and parents will be invited to school in small groups to spend thirty minutes with their teachers exploring the school environment. Complete details on parent's night, tea parties, and the first days of school will be included in the fall parent handbook.

Classes begin after Labor Day. Vacations throughout the year follow the Carmel Clay School calendar. A full listing will be included in your fall handbook.
